The family that hauls together: Galaxy Trucker work-around now allows private games

Dy-no-mite!

It’s old news around the Pocket Tactics water cooler that I kind of like Galaxy Trucker. I think it’s an absolute blast, and watching the online multiplayer lobbies fill up with games this week has been a lot of fun. One of the faults pointed out about Galaxy Trucker is the online system. It works very smoothy, but you cannot create private online games so that you can hook up with your friends. Czech Games Edition is working on an update that will add this functionality, but it’s probably a few weeks away at least. Don’t fret, though, because they’ve managed a workaround that works right now. That’s right, you can setup private games right now in Galaxy Trucker, you just need to know how to do it.

They just announced on their Facebook page that if you name your online games beginning with double # and then the name of your friends, only you and them will see the game in your online lobby. For example, if my friends were OwenF and KelseyR, I would name the game:

## OwenF, KelseyR

Then only Owen, Kelsey and myself would have access to the game. It’s not perfect, but it’s a pretty clever workaround until they get an official patch in there.

If you’re a non-iPad owner that’s been sitting at the truck stop instead of plying the space lanes this week, you’ll be able to get into convoy with the rest of us eventually: CGE have told us that Android and iOS Universal editions are in the works and hopefully coming soon. Trailer after the break.
