It just impacted on the surface.
In a lesser circle of the underworld, minor devils compare notes over mugs of Vimto (The official beverage of Hell™). “What did you do this week?” inquires one.
“I made plastic clamshells impervious to diamonds and lasers,” says the Electronics Packaging Devil, and his colleagues chortle.
The Cinema Devil doesn’t even look up from his Vimto. “Ninja Turtles movie,” he says curtly. Across the table, George Lucas nods approval.
A throat clears. Demonic eyes turn towards towards the App Store Approvals Devil. “I rejected Star Realms. Again!” Peals of infernal laughter fill the vestibule.
A reliable source tells me that that’s how it went down, but even if that story isn’t entirely accurate there is one part that is indisputable: according to a Facebook post late last night, Star Realms has been rejected by Apple. This is at least the third snub, though there have probably been more than that for the hotly-anticipated deck-building card game from Ascension co-designer Rob Dougherty which was originally due out in early July.
At this point, Apple is just being cruel. White Wizard say that the latest rejection hinged on Star Realms’ “requirement to supply an email address when creating your on-line play account.” If that’s the case, then this is yet another example of wildly inconsistent application of App Store guidelines. Every single one of Playdek’s games (including the App Store-featured Lords of Waterdeep) requires an email address to play online, as do all of Slitherine’s multiplayer wargames.
Android’s accidental exclusivity continues for Star Realms for the time being, and White Wizard are wisely not promising any iOS release dates for now. Read my preview of Star Realms from May to see what you’re missing in the meantime.
