Hunted Cow are nothing less than bullish (forgive me) on iOS wargaming. This year they hooked up with Panzer Corps co-developers Lordz to revitalise their Tank Battle series of light tactical games, and they’ve picked up the reins on Victory Point Games’ digital future after that tabletop publisher struggled with in-house development of games like Zulus on the Ramparts.
According to Hunted Cow, there’s a long list of Decision titles in the works right now for iOS, including the hex-and-counter wargame Battles of the Ancient World and Nuts!, The Battle of the Bulge Card Game. The first product of the new union will be American Revolution wargame Rebels & Redcoats, which we’re told is coming next month. I asked Hunted Cow if they had any other platforms in mind besides iOS and they said there were no such plans at the moment.
This is just plain good news. Decision’s games have been strictly for the hardest of the hardcore grognards up until this point: straight-laced paper map affairs with drab cardboard counters that make IKEA furniture instructions look like an episode of Cosmos. If Hunted Cow can bring those wargames to life with an exciting visual presentation, it’ll bring more people into our cosseted little hobby, and that’s a win for everybody.
