Super surprise: Sentinels of the Multiverse releasing in October

Super size me

Back in December of last year, Owen asked us all for our most anticipated games of 2014. Narrowing this down to just 1 game seemed impossible, as I was equally holding out hope for 3: Galaxy Trucker, Sentinels of the Multiverse, and Through the Ages. Since then, we’ve learned that Through the Ages is a 2015 release and I’ve played nearly complete builds of Galaxy Trucker on two occasions, so I know that one is going to be hitting the App Store soon. Sentinels, however, has been more of a mystery. We knew it was coming “this fall”, but until GenCon last month, hadn’t even seen any gameplay.

Then, today, this arrived in my Twitter feed:

More details, and some more gameplay, after the break.

Sentinels of Multiverse is a cooperative card game in which each player controls a different superhero using a unique deck of cards. Greater Than Games has released four large expansions with another one on the way, and a ton of mini-expansions. Over time, the number of heroes, villains, and environments has grown to staggering proportions. In the initial iPad and Android tablet release, we’ll get everything you get if you purchase the physical Enhanced Edition: 10 heroes, 4 villains, 4 environments. Everything is included for $10, with no IAP, but future expansions will cost extra.

Currently, the game only offers pass-and-play multiplayer, but considering I play the majority of my Sentinels games solo, running 3-4 heroes, I don’t see this being a huge problem. That said, Handelabra has stated that online multiplayer is something they’re working on along with PC support and more.
