No, it’s Ipswitch.
There are only two board game designers who can get me to buy their games sight unseen: Vlaada Chvátil and Martin Wallace. A few weeks ago, Vlaada finally appeared on mobile devices with the brilliant Galaxy Trucker, but Martin Wallace remains unrepresented. That should all change in 2015. We already know that railroad-builder Steam is coming next year, and this morning I learned that my favorite Martin Wallace game, Brass, is coming to mobile as well.
Brass details the birth of the industrial revolution and how it affects the cotton industry of northern England. Players build industries such as coal mines, ironworks, and cotton mills, attempting to “flip” them which is, thematically, when the industry is self-sustaining and bringing in a steady income (and victory points). You also need to construct canals, and later railroads, to be able to ship your goods to port, or transfer coal and iron to build new industries. Brass, like most of Martin Wallace’s games, is a very complex and beefy game. That said, the developers have promised tutorials to make it approachable for new players.
Developer, Cublo Games, has said that the logic for the game is pretty much finished but they need to work on the user interface and experience at this point. Expected release for both iOS and Android is autumn of 2015.
We have one of those completely useless teaser trailers after the break. It sure looks pretty, though, and gives a glimpse into the art style Cublo is using.
