Very-small-tower defense : Crystal Reign brings its action to the iPhone

Not much of a tower...can we call it "hut defense"?

Not much of a tower…can we call it “hut defense”?

You guys remember Crystal Reign? It is a tower defense game, of sorts, in which you literally build a tower and then have to defend it from all sorts of robots. Yes, robots. It’s been around for iPad since Spring, but Hunted Cow has been planning an iPhone version of the game for a bit and just released it as Crystal Reign Pocket.

Creating separate apps for iPhone and iPad isn’t something that’s done very much anymore, but for Crystal Reign it was a necessity. As towers get tall the playing field zooms out accordingly making a small screen adaptation, well, too small. For the pocket version, they’ve rebalanced and redesigned the game to allow shorter towers with the same frantic atmosphere. In Crystal Reign Pocket, players will begin with a 2-level tower with a ballista and cannon. As you progress in the game you can purchase upgrades to your tower and weaponry to face the increasingly devious robots. Yes, still robots.

Crystal Reign Pocket ships with 32 levels and a story narrated by Gibbs from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. There is also another 16-level campaign available as IAP.

Crystal Reign Pocket is out right now for iPhone and costs $1. Crystal Reign trailer after the break.
