Boston-based rhythm __game developer Harmonix has suffered a series of layoffs that may have affected around 24 employees.

Harmonix officially confirmed that it was cutting 17 jobs as part of a restructuring effort

Gamasutra then reported that it had been letting go of staff throughout 2017 so far, with at least seven more employees leaving before the most recent round.

"Today we made the difficult decision to say goodbye to 17 talented people as we restructured to align with our current and anticipated development needs," said a spokesperson for Harmonix.

"These people all played a role in making Harmonix and its games what they are today and we are more than grateful for their contributions. We are working to ensure that they are taken care of as we make this change."

Dropped

The studio's last big round of layoffs took place in May 2014 when it shed 37 of its staff. Then-CEO Alex Rigopulos was also replaced by Steve Janiak at the time.

Harmonix is currently working on a phygital board __game called DropMix in partnership with Hasbro. The game uses a physical board with cards that trigger music through a mobile app.
