International Talk Like A Pirate Day feels like a slightly embarrassing vestige of the mid-2000s, like Fark.com and Atkins diets. And yet we have reason to celebrate it again tonight, because 80 Days makers Inkle have timed the surprise release of a new gamebook to coincide with it. <insert hamsterdance.gif>

Down Among the Dead Men is an Inkle-produced gamebook about pirates, obviously. It’s written by Dave Morris, the author of Inkle’s 2012 debut game Frankenstein. More details about that and two other interesting releases after the jump.

Down Among the Dead Men charges you with exploring the high seas and building up a pirate crew tough enough to take on the dread pirate Skarvench. This seems like a smaller project from our favourite IF makers, so don’t expect something of earth-shattering scope like 80 Days, but Inkle have never released a bad game.

This one’s out at midnight wherever you are, or 11pm in the US. It’s one whole dollar, which is an absolute steal to play something from Inkle.

Goat Simulator started out as a PC tech demo that Super Sanctum TD makers Coffee Stain Studios showed off on YouTube as a joke. The resulting popularity of the 3D sandbox game where you play as a goat attempting to connect his head with as many butts as possible resulted in a PC release. In a nutshell: Snakes on a Plane, the game.

Now Goat Simulator comes to mobile. It’s already out, so you can be the cabric terrorist you’ve always wanted to be on both iOS and Android for five bucks.

This is a great trailer.

Tactics Maiden is a strategy RPG from the prolific Mangobile. I could never get into their games but if your impression of Final Fantasy Tactics was that it needed to be longer then these titles are going to be digital crack rocks for you. Tactics Maiden boasts of 85 scenarios, 36 character classes, over 1000 items, and other large integers of content.

This one’s out at midnight on iOS for free — there’s a $5 IAP to unlock the whole game if you like the trial portion.
