Out Tonight: Valiant Hearts, Colorbs, Battle Riders, and All Star Quarterback

Entrench yourself.

Entrench yourself.

In the Pantheon of New Release Nights, tonight is occupying a decidedly low plinth. The week’s notable launch might be the already-available Yardmaster, though PT commenters are giving that one some fairly equivocal praise so far.

There are a few games worth chatting about, so why don’t we watch the trailers after the jump?

If you’re going to be up until midnight, you should definitely have a look at Valiant Hearts, Ubisoft’s emotionally powerful WWI adventure. The game garnered some respectable reviews when it came out for consoles earlier this year. The beautifully illustrated 2D adventure game tells the story of a family divided across borders by the Great War, and you must cross the trenches to reunite them. I haven’t been hands on with this iOS port of the title yet but I hope it’s good.

Valiant Hearts is an episodic affair: the initial $5 download gets you the first episode, and the rest are available within the app. iOS Universal, out at midnight where you are or 11pm Eastern if you’re in the US.

Does anybody recognise the voice doing the VO in this trailer? I know I know it, and it’s driving me a bit mad.

All Star Quarterback is a product of British studio Full Fat, who made the delightful Flick Golf back in 2012. You play as a QB in a fictional American football league rising through the ranks to become a legend, presuming that you aren’t total rubbish at the game. Sounds like an American football take on New Star Soccer, which is no bad thing.

This one’s free to play so accept all of my usual caveats, but Full Fat really do make a lovely, polished product. I hope the monetisation isn’t too skeevy.

All Star Quarterback is iOS Universal and it’s out later tonight for free.

I hope there's a "Doug Flutie" size.

I hope there’s a “Doug Flutie” size.

Colorbs is yet another flat design aesthetic puzzle game that I would probably sic Kelsey on if his review queue wasn’t stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey. There’s a Tetris-like falling piece thing going on here, and it’s refreshingly a nice simple $2 one-time purchase.

Colorbs is iOS Universal and two of your Earth dollars later tonight.

Finally we’ve got Battle Riders, a 3D car combat game that Clancy thought was interesting enough to take out for a review spin. It’s two bucks with no IAPs, so if you pine for the days of Interstate ’76 and Twisted Metal, you might want to give this a shot. Before you start organising a PT Sunday Driver’s Club, it’s single-player only.
