I can tell you from experience: you’re not going to get a good seal on that space helmet if you don’t trim that beard, son.
In my rush to prepare dinner last night for Lady F and myself (Owen’s famous Coronation Chicken Salad, by the by) it appears that I did an injustice to last night’s releases. Besides Valiant Hearts and the other launches we covered, there’s a fair few other noteworthy titles out worldwide right now.
Let’s have a browse.
Heavy Metal Thunder is getting reviewed as we speak by Neumann. It’s not a game about managing a Slayer tribute band, but rather an sci-fi interactive fiction adventure where you fight a guerrilla campaign to liberate our beloved solar system from alien invaders, presumably whilst throwing up the horns.
Heavy Metal Thunder is two bucks and iOS Universal — there’s also a free version you can try out. No Stairway. (Update: Free version appears to have had its head bitten off by Ozzy.)
Tabletop game publishers GMT are best known for hardcore board games designed for only the most orthodox and fundamentalist war nerds; stuff like Commands & Colors, Space Empires, and (my personal all-time favourite) Twilight Struggle. This week they seem to be showing us their lighter side with Leaping Lemmings, a family-friendly game about clans of lemmings competing to perform the most compelling acts of mass suicide. Actually on review, perhaps it’s not as family-friendly as all that.
Leaping Lemmings is iPad-only and $3. This is GMT’s first digital release since competitive evolution game Dominant Species back in 2012.
No video for this one so here’s Tom Vasel playing the tabletop version.
Veteran publisher Nival’s revival of the Etherlords PC franchise arrives today in the form of an eponymous free-to-play title that we first glimpsed a couple of weeks back. How free-to-play is it? Tierney is finding out right now and we’ll have his review for you before long.
Etherlords is free and it’s iOS Universal.
