Et tu, Monty?
Last week, the board game world was shocked when acclaimed, yet small, publisher Days of Wonder was acquired by French giant, Asmodee. This week, it’s the digital realm’s jaw that’s dropping. Today it was announced that Slitherine has acquired Shenandoah Studio. You remember Shenandoah, right? They created some of the greatest games for iPad on the App Store: Battle of the Bulge, Drive on Moscow, and Desert Fox. You remember Slitherine? They’re the guys who own just about every digital war game developer on the planet.
The big question is what does this mean? We know one thing for certain: the Civil War game Shenandoah was working on, Gettysburg: The Tide Turns, is now getting everyone’s full attention which means it will, at some point, see the light of day. Other than that, nothing is really set in stone. The press release mentions that all of Shenandoah’s current games will be added to Slitherine’s group stores around the web. Does this mean that the Shenandoah stable is being ported to other platforms? We’re not sure, but it certainly sounds like it. What does it mean for future Shenandoah projects? No word on anything there either.
The fact that Gettysburg is full steam ahead makes this announcement good news. As for what else the future of Shenandoah holds? We’ll have to wait and see.
