The big release this week is Telltale Games‘ latest foray onto iOS, this one stuck firmly in the political machinations for the Iron Throne in HBO’s series, Game of Thrones. If you’re familiar with Telltale’s other epic adventures like Walking Dead or A Wolf Among Us, then I don’t have to sell you on this, you’ll be waiting in line to pick it up. For those uninitiated in Telltale’s wares, you’re in for a treat. These games aren’t really like any other games you’ve played. There’s no puzzles, no finding wacky inventory items to use later in the quest, and really no up front goal. Their games are like being dropped in the middle of a book or movie, and using the character you control to play the story out.

The only downside of all the Telltale games is their use of quicktime events. Ugh. Whenever there is an action scene you have to mash a button as fast as you can, or swipe your screen at the exact right moment. They suck. Luckily, the Game of Thrones setting should be action-light and more dialog heavy, which is where these games really shine. Each decision you make matters to someone, and will come back to either reward or bite you some point in the future.

Telltale has stated that the iOS version of Episode 1 will release on December 4th, which usually means Wednesday night. That said, I don’t see it on the NZ App Store, so maybe it won’t actually launch until tomorrow. Either way, keep your eyes open. This should be a good one. Like I mentioned, this is only the first episode of 6. Expect a new episode to arrive every month or two.

Trailer and more of tonight’s releases after the break.

Shadowrun Returns was our runner-up for RPG of the Year in 2013, so we’re all excited to see what they came up with in the follow-up, Shadowrun: Dragonfall. The game contains 17 missions and appears to be a more polished experience than the first title. It’s coming for iPad 3 and up, as well as Android tablets tonight for $7.

Narborion Saga is a new interactive fiction from a new developer, Liber Primus Games. It looks like standard IF fare, with maybe a tilt a little more toward the role-playing side of things. It also appears to be a freemium title, with in-game gold you need to purchase to do something. What that might be isn’t quite clear, yet. It should be free to download, so at least exploring it won’t cost you a nickel. Narborion Saga released last week for Android devices and is hitting iOS tonight.

I don’t know what to make of Dustoff Vietnam. The game is about flying Chinook helicopters into the jungles of Vietnam to rescue wounded soldiers. It sounds pretty cool, but it’s the graphics that have me worried. Instead of simulation-style graphics, this looks like someone created Vietnam in a game of Minecraft. Big, blocky everything. So, I’m guessing this is going to be lighter fare, but it still sounded good enough for a mention. It’s coming for iOS Universal and should cost $3.

Now, go forth and tell me all the cool stuff I missed this week.
